Delete your Zugo Direct account
We’re sorry to see you go. This page explains how to close your investment account, delete your Zugo Direct account, what happens next, and what we do with your data after deletion.
Zugo Direct is a trading name of XYZ Advisors Limited, authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA Firm Reference Number: 1008954) and registered in England and Wales (Company No. 11334727).
What you’ll need to do first
Because Zugo Direct is a regulated investment service, your investment account must be closed before your Zugo Direct account can be deleted. Please make sure that:
You have sold all your investments, or requested a full transfer to another provider
Any withdrawn cash has reached your linked bank account
All pending actions (such as transfers, deposits, or withdrawals) are complete
How to close your investment account
Once your investment account holds no funds, you can close it from within the app:
Open the Zugo Direct app and log in.
Go to the Profile tab.
Select Investment Account.
Tap the three-dot menu (⋯) on the account card.
Select Close Account and confirm.
Never funded or used your account? If your account holds no cash or assets and has had no activity, you can proceed straight to deletion — there is nothing to close first.
How to delete your account
Once your investment account is closed and holds no funds, you can delete your Zugo Direct account from within the app:
Open the Zugo Direct app and log in.
Go to the Profile tab.
Tap Delete Account.
Follow the on-screen instructions and confirm the deletion.
If you have uninstalled the app, please reinstall it from the App Store or Google Play and log in to complete these steps.
What happens after deletion?
Your documents are sent to you. You will receive an email containing your key documents, including your ISA Declaration, transaction statements, and related records. Please keep these safely — they cannot be retrieved through the app afterwards.
You’ll no longer be able to use the app. If you log back in after confirming deletion, you will only see a “Deletion In Progress” status screen.
Active features are cancelled. Any scheduled activity, plans, or alerts linked to your account will be stopped.
We’ll stop contacting you. You will no longer receive promotional or investment-related communications from us, unless a communication is required by regulation.
Deletion is permanent. There is no option to reopen or restore a deleted account. If you wish to use Zugo Direct again in the future, you would need to make a new application.
What happens to your data?
Under UK regulations, including Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) rules and UK GDPR, we are required to retain certain information about your account even once it is deleted. All other personal data is removed when your request is processed.
Data we delete
Your account profile and login credentials
Contact details held for app communications, where no longer required
App usage and analytics identifiers linked to your account
Messages and enquiries submitted through the app, where no longer required
Records we must retain
Identity verification (KYC) and anti-money-laundering records — 5 years after your account closes
Transaction and order records — 5 years after your account closes
ISA declarations and related tax records — 6 years after your account closes
Legal retention periods. These periods are set by our regulators and by HMRC and cannot be shortened, even at your request. There is no fee to close your account or transfer away. Retained records are held securely, used for regulatory, legal, and audit purposes only — never for marketing once your account is closed — and permanently deleted once the relevant retention period expires.
How long does deletion take?
We aim to process deletion requests within 30 days of confirmation. Records subject to the legal retention period are deleted automatically once that period ends.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data. For full details, please see our Privacy Policy.
If you have concerns about how your personal data is handled, you may lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk. If your complaint relates to our service or advice rather than your data, you may refer it to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) at financial-ombudsman.org.uk.
